Fairer Distribution Of Public Honours

EDM number 1394 in 2002-03, proposed by Greg Pope on 11/06/2003.

That this House is concerned about the unequal distribution of honours across the country and across the public services; is particularly concerned at the heavy bias towards senior military officers, diplomats and Whitehall civil servants at the expense of doctors, nurses, teachers and other equally worthy but unsung public servants; congratulates the Lancashire Evening Telegraph on its Pride of East Lancashire campaign which highlights the achievements of East Lancashire people and the community spirit of the area; and calls on the Honours Section to give greater consideration for national honours to those, like the Pride of East Lancashire nominees, who work in the regions.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
