Sinking Of The Oil Tanker Prestige

EDM number 144 in 2002-03, proposed by David Lidington on 19/11/2002.

That this House expresses its sympathy to the people of Spain at the environmental and economic devastation caused by oil from the tanker Prestige; and calls on the Government to strengthen safeguards against oil spills in United Kingdom waters, to review urgently Britain's contingency plans to cope with such accidents, and to take the lead within the European Union and the International Maritime Organisation in pressing for effective international rules to protect oceanic and coastal environments and the livelihood of maritime communities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 69 MPs.
