Retirement Of Sir Edward George
EDM number 1514 in 2002-03, proposed by Tim Loughton on 02/07/2003.
That this House notes the retirement of Sir Edward George after an almost uninterrupted lifetime's career working for the Bank of England and as Governor for the last 10 years; acknowledges that he is widely recognised as having been one of the most successful governors in the Bank's history, having steered an expert course through a series of turbulent events in financial markets with consummate composure, earning him the sobriquet 'Steady Eddie'; thanks him for a lifetime of successful public service; and wishes him a long and healthy retirement.
