Immigration Service Base At Loch Ryan
EDM number 1606 in 2002-03, proposed by Peter Duncan on 16/07/2003.
That this House notes that Stranraer/Cairnryan is one of the UK's most significant roll-on roll-off ferry ports; further notes that the number of asylum applications being made there increased over tenfold over the past two years and that these applications are dealt with by Home Office staff undertaking a four-hour round trip from Glasgow; and believes that the Home Secretary should institute an immediate review of the facilities available and actively consider reallocating resources to create an on-site Immigration Service base at Loch Ryan.
