National Construction Week 2003

EDM number 1834 in 2002-03, proposed by Tom Watson on 29/10/2003.

That this House notes the success of National Construction Week 2003, the UK-wide campaign managed by CITB-Construction Skills, which encourages young people to consider a career in the construction industry, which ran from 8th to 15th October; further notes that 1,472 events took place from Orkney to Cornwall and an estimated 70,000 young people took part in events during National Construction Week 2003 making the year's campaign the most successful yet since its inception in 1997; welcomes this timely initiative, given that over 380,000 new recruits to the construction industry are needed in the next five years in order to keep pace with economic demand and an ageing workforce; supports the aims of National Construction Week; and calls on the Government and all honourable Members to support the work of Construction Skills, to create a modern, well-trained and competitive industry that will attract the highest calibre of new recruits for the future.

This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
