Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive
EDM number 1872 in 2002-03, proposed by Liam Fox on 05/11/2003.
That this House notes that the Traditional Medicinal products Directive continues to make progress towards ratification in the EU; expresses its concern that the directive will impose substantial and sometimes unaffordable costs upon manufacturers; notes that Britain has many successful smaller manufacturers whose future may be jeopardised by the Directive; further notes that any new restrictions upon consumers will simply mean that products are bought via the internet from overseas suppliers whose quality monitoring may not meet standards currently in place in this country; and calls upon the government to ensure that the Directive is not permitted to pass in a form that puts well-managed smaller manufacturers out of business and reduces choice to consumers.
