Responsible Charity Investments

EDM number 523 in 2002-03, proposed by Tony Colman on 15/01/2003.

That this House welcomes the socially responsible investment proposals in the Cabinet Office Strategy Unit's consultation document, 'Private Action, Public Benefit', which proposes that charities with a total annual income of over ú1 million disclose whether or not they take social, environmental and ethical considerations into account in their investment strategies; and urges the Government to modernise charity law to bring it in line with the legal oblication of pension fund trustees to declare their stance on SRI in their investment policies, and go beyond the strategy unit's proposals and encourage charities to report annually on the implementation of their investment policy, in order to prevent a gap between policy and implementation.

This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
