Northern Ireland Electoral Register And The Missing 130,000 Electorate
EDM number 726 in 2002-03, proposed by Tony Clarke on 12/02/2003.
That this House is concerned about how 130,000 people in Northern Ireland who were on the electoral register in June 2002 do not appear in that issued in December 2002; notes that the recent census figures show that a further 57,683 people eligible to be on the register also do not appear; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland urgently to begin an investigation into how these 187,683 voters failed to be registered and to take measures to ensure that all those eligible to vote are not disenfranchised.
