GNER'S 8TH ANNIVERSARY

EDM number 1061 in 2003-04, proposed by Hugh Bayley on 27/04/2004.

That this House congratulates GNER on its 8th anniversary; notes that GNER's high-speed inter-city train services along the East Coast linking London, the East Midlands, Yorkshire, the North East of England and Scotland are used regularly by many honourable and Right honourable Members; congratulates the company for carrying record numbers of passengers and consistently achieving the highest passenger satisfaction ratings of any long-distance train operator; applauds the priority given by GNER to investment in employees; underpinned by innovative partnership agreements with the trade unions; congratulates GNER for winning many national awards, including two at the Railway Innovation Awards 2004; welcomes the fact that GNER is spending ú100 million on rebuilt, longer and reliable trains, new and bigger car parks, modernised stations, and improved information for passengers; notes that GNER currently receives no Government subsidy; and looks forward to GNER continuing to operate and expand its services well into the future.
