Dumping Of Nuclear Material In Kyrgyzstan

EDM number 1691 in 2003-04, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 11/10/2004.

That this House condemns and deplores the decision by British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. to ship 1800 tons of radioactive materials to Kyrgyzstan for reprocessing; considers that BNFL has cynically calculated that it can do this in a small country that is out of sight and out of mind of those agencies and groups which monitor the nuclear industry; and notes the singular failure of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to appoint an ambassador resident in Kyrgyzstan which will no doubt have given succour and encouragement to the dumpers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 34 MPs.
