Israeli Killing Of Palestinian Children
EDM number 1784 in 2003-04, proposed by Llew Smith on 21/10/2004.
That this House notes with deep concern the publication in the Israeli newspaper, Ha'aretz.com on 17th October, under the cruelly ironic headline, 'Killing children is no longer a big deal', the details of the death of more than 30 Palestinian children killed in the first two weeks of operation Days of Penitence in Gaza; further notes that, whereas in the overall count of all the victims of the intifada the ratio is three Palestinians killed for every Israeli killed, when it comes to children the ratio is five to one; that according to the human rights organisation, B'Tselem, even before the current operation in Gaza, 557 Palestinian minors aged below 18 years were killed, compared to 110 Israeli minors, that the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group suggests even higher numbers - 598 Palestinian children aged up to 17 years killed, and that the Red Crescent reports 828 Palestinian childen aged up to 18 years killed; further notes, with horror, The Times newspaper report of 14th October, on the killing of a 13-year-old Palestinian girl, Iman al-Hams, by an Israeli soldier who 'emptied the ammunition clip of his rifle into her head and upper body at close range', puncturing her body with 20 bullets as she walked to school near an Israeli sentry post on the Philadelphi Road in the Tel al-Sultan neighbourhood of Rafah, in Gaza; believes it is astonishing he was subsequently cleared of unethical behaviour; and unconditionally condemns the murder of Palestinian children by Israeli military forces occupying Palestine.
