Food Supplements, The High Court And The European Court Of Justice

EDM number 541 in 2003-04, proposed by Tim Yeo on 03/02/2004.

That this House welcomes the success of the Health Food Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Health Stores, supported by Consumers for Health Choice, in obtaining leave from the High Court in London on Friday 30th January to take to the European Court of Justice their case that the Food Supplements Directive is disproportionate and invalid; deeply regrets the continuing inaction on the part of the Minister for Public Health in relation to this important issue; and demands that the Government uses maximum diplomatic and political pressure to ensure that millions of UK consumers are not denied access to products that are currently on sale in the UK with no suggestion from any appropriate authority that they are unsafe.

This motion has been signed by a total of 58 MPs.
