Fair Isle And Fair-Trade

EDM number 723 in 2003-04, proposed by Alistair Carmichael on 01/03/2004.

That this House congratulates Fair Isle on becoming the UK's first Fairtrade Island; notes that Fairtrade products have been sold on Fair Isle for a decade, that over 40 Fairtrade items are on sale in the island's shop and that Fairtrade products result in a better deal for a producer in the developing world by providing stable prices which cover production costs, along with a premium that is reinvented in the business or social and environmental schemes among the wider community; notes that Fairtrade fortnight from 1st to 14th March marks 10 years of the Fairtrade mark; and encourages other islands to follow the example of Fair Isle and become accredited Fairtrade islands.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
