Anglia Railways, Train Operator Of The Year

EDM number 733 in 2003-04, proposed by Bob Russell on 01/03/2004.

That this House congratulates Anglia Railways on once again being named Train Operator of the Year; congratulates all Anglia employees for their continued efforts which have resulted in this richly deserved honour; in the light of this latest national accolade, coupled with last year's award to Anglia of its fourth Charter Mark for customer service, its record for increasing passenger numbers more than any other company and improved punctuality figures, notes with astonishment that Anglia Railways was deemed by the Strategic Railway Authority to be not good enough to be awarded the new Greater Anglia franchise; calls on the Government to demand an explanation from the SRA as to why it rejected Anglia when the company has once again been named Train Operator of the Year; and calls on the new operator, with effect from 1st April not to remove the distinctive qualities nor reduce the level of service provided by Anglia Railways.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
