Security Of Energy Supplies

EDM number 784 in 2003-04, proposed by Stephen O'Brien on 04/03/2004.

That this House is concerned about the security of supply of energy in the medium term; notes that the UK's indigenous gas supplies are running down and that it is forecast to be a net importer of gas from 2005; further notes that the coal industry is under threat from environmental constraints and a significant amount of coal burned now is imported; notes that the present renewables target, which is only three per cent. is not being met and that the decommissioning of nuclear power stations will begin in 2008; and calls upon the Government to open a full and frank debate on the future of UK energy supplies.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
