Democracy In Nepal

EDM number 969 in 2004-05, proposed by Tony Lloyd on 21/03/2005.

That this House regrets the suspension of democracy in Nepal and urges the King of Nepal to restore democracy immediately; notes with particular concern the restrictions on free, independent and democratic trade unions and the arrest of many of the leaders of the Nepalese trade union movement; welcomes the global day of action to protest against this situation called by the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and the World Confederation of Labour; and calls upon the King of Nepal to restore freedom of association and free speech and release forthwith those arrested for their trade union activities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
