Supermarket Code Of Practice
EDM number 110 in 2005-06, proposed by James Paice on 17/05/2005.
That this House recognises there is a widespread belief among suppliers that the Supermarket Code of Practice is not working effectively; believes that the term `reasonable' which appears throughout the code can be interpreted to the disadvantage of suppliers and must be clearly defined on the face of the code so that all parties know exactly where they stand; notes that for the code to work effectively suppliers need to know that complaints will be dealt with in confidence and that breaches will be dealt with swiftly and robustly; and calls on the Government to adopt a much tougher code of practice that requires all aspects of the contract between suppliers and supermarket to be confirmed in writing.
