Potters Bar Derailment And The Hertfordshire Coroner

EDM number 1237 in 2005-06, proposed by James Clappison on 12/12/2005.

That this House regrets the decision taken by the Secretary of State for Transport not to hold a public inquiry into the Potters Bar derailment of 10th May 2002; and notes that whilst the Secretary of State makes reference to the holding of an inquest by the Hertfordshire Coroner as one of the factors in the background to his decision, the Hertfordshire Coroner is reported as saying that in his view the current powers of a coroner may not be sufficient to fulfil the requirements of the necessary public investigation into this awful tragedy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
