Amnesty International Report On Domestic Violence In Russia

EDM number 1295 in 2005-06, proposed by Harry Cohen on 19/12/2005.

That this House is shocked at the information in the recently published Amnesty International report, Nowhere to Turn to: Violence against Women in the Family, which states that one woman every hour is thought to be killed through domestic violence in Russia; notes that there is a chronic lack of protection for women in Russia such as shelters for domestic violence victims; further notes that the criminal justice authorities, including police, prosecutors and courts respond extremely poorly to such violence; and calls upon the Foreign Secretary to make representations to his Russian counterpart on this matter urging implementation of the recommendations in the Amnesty International report by the Russian government to improve substantially the protection of the country's women.

This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
