Russian Energy Supply To Georgia

EDM number 2909 in 2005-06, proposed by Danny Alexander on 06/11/2006.

That this House notes with concern Russia's threat to double the price paid by Georgia for its gas supplies; sees an unwelcome pattern of behaviour emerging in Russia's conduct as an energy supplier; recognises that while Russia has the right to charge a fair price for its energy resources, it should not be allowed to vary prices in order to reward or punish the behaviour of foreign governments; urges the UK Government to work with the UK's EU partners to seek a firm undertaking from the Russian government that it will not in future use energy supplies as a foreign policy weapon; attaches particular importance to Russia meeting its obligations under the Energy Charter Treaty; and calls on the Prime Minister to raise this issue at the forthcoming EU-Russia summit in Helsinki on 24th November.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
