Government Plans For State Independent Schools

EDM number 848 in 2005-06, proposed by John Pugh on 25/10/2005.

That this House challenges the Government to produce evidence from Ofsted or elsewhere that under performance in schools is directly attributable to a lack of independence from local education authorities; notes that the success of state schools unattached to local education authorities is often coincident with the receipt of significant additional funds; deplores the departure from evidence-led policy shown by the drive to disconnect schools from local education authorities; and believes that only those in thrall to media clichés and social Darwinism and devoid of a sense of irony would make the promotion of such an obvious oxymoron as state independent schools a priority.
