First Great Western 1515 London Paddington To Swansea Service

EDM number 201 in 2006-07, proposed by Sian C James on 21/11/2006.

That this House expresses regret that First Great Western will terminate its 15:15 London Paddington to Swansea service at Cardiff Central from 11th December 2006; notes that this service currently arrives into Cardiff Central during the weekday evening peak-time and that passengers travelling from London to Swansea and intermediate stations Bridgend, Port Talbot and Neath will be forced to change services at Cardiff Central, joining existing passengers whose journey starts at Cardiff; further notes that as of 11th December there will be only three peak-time services, one First Great Western and two Arriva trains from Cardiff Central to Swansea and intermediate stations between 5pm and 6pm; believes that this represents a degradation of service to Swansea and may set a precedent for a further reduction in service provision to west Wales; further believes that this decision will cause overcrowding, inconvenience and confusion and will encourage more car use; and calls on the Government to urge First Great Western urgently to reconsider this decision and to ensure that capacity and service frequency from Cardiff to Swansea and west Wales destinations are maintained and improved.

This motion has been signed by a total of 40 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
