Airbus A380 First Flight

EDM number 2192 in 2006-07, proposed by Doug Naysmith on 29/10/2007.

That this House congratulates Airbus and Singapore Airlines on the entry into service of the A380, the world's largest commercial airliner, whose inaugural passenger flight took place on 25th October by Singapore Airlines; notes that the A380 is the most fuel-efficient large commercial aircraft in the world today, burning 17 per cent. less fuel per seat than today's largest aircraft, and leads the field in passenger experience; further notes that 25 per cent. of the aircraft's structure is made out of composite and other lightweight materials, greater than on any previous passenger aircraft; recognises the importance of sustained investment in research and technology, which has enabled the successful development of the A380 programme; acknowledges that the A380 generates about 26,000 direct and indirect jobs in the UK with more than 400 companies throughout the UK contributing to the programme; further acknowledges that work valued at over £7.5 billion has been placed in the UK on the A380 through Britain's responsibility for its wings, landing gear and fuel systems; and commends the hard work and dedication of all those in both companies who have been involved in the launch programme.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
