Solectron Job Losses

EDM number 43 in 2006-07, proposed by Willie Rennie on 15/11/2006.

That this House notes with concern Solectron UK's announcement that it intends to close its plant in Dunfermline with the loss of 440 jobs; notes that this follows the loss of 700 jobs earlier this year from the closure of Lexmark in Rosyth; praises the staff under the leadership of Mark Cumming for introducing colossal changes at this electronics plant in recent years in an effort to compete; recognises that the plant had moved up the value chain, away from high value manufacture, and was dependent on the excellent skills of the employees; and urges the Government, the Scottish Executive and all Government agencies to provide support to all 440 staff at this difficult time and to conduct a study into the lessons learnt.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
