Disposal Of Fats, Oils And Greases Into The Sewerage System
EDM number 472 in 2006-07, proposed by Howard Stoate on 12/12/2006.
That this House is concerned that the dispersal of fats, oils and greases into the sewerage system is the cause of up to 75 per cent. of blockages within the system and results in the flooding and pollution of hundreds of buildings and gardens each year; notes that one of the major contributors to the problem is the inappropriate disposal of fats, oils and greases from commercial hot food premises such as restaurants, pubs and fast food outlets; further notes the difficulties involved in prosecuting commercial hot food premises for illegally disposing of fats, oils and greases into the sewerage system; calls for a review of legislation in this area; and further calls on the Government to make it compulsory for all commercial hot food premises to have a properly maintained grease separator installed to prevent the entry of fats, oils and greases into the sewerage system.
