Standards Of Advertising By Bskyb Ltd

EDM number 935 in 2006-07, proposed by Don Foster on 21/02/2007.

That this House notes the findings of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) on 7th February 2007 regarding British Sky Broadcasting Ltd; acknowledges that in suggesting that terrestrial television services in Whitehaven were to be switched off, when in fact they will remain available through Freeview, Sky breached the Code of Advertising Practice clauses 3.1 (Substantiation), 6.1 (Honesty) and 7.1 (Truthfulness); agrees with the action of the ASA in telling Sky to make it clear in future adverts that Freeview would be available to people in Whitehaven; and expresses disappointment that at such an important stage at the beginning of the switchover period Sky would attempt to take advantage of any confusion surrounding the matter.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
