Whaddon And The South West Regional Spatial Strategy

EDM number 2341 in 2007-08, proposed by Parmjit Dhanda on 27/10/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Housing supply and Regional planning and development.

That this House notes that aspects of the South West Regional Spatial Strategy have met with concern from hon. Members, constituents and local representatives; calls on the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to remove Whaddon from the text and maps of the South West Regional Spatial Strategy; notes that this would help protect the Grange and Tuffley areas of Gloucester from the threat of future flooding; further notes that the South West of England is the only region of England with above average house prices and below average wages and that new homes are needed to tackle the issue of supply; and calls on Gloucestershire local authorities like Stroud and the Cotswolds to help rejuvenate villages and tackle urban sprawl on the edge of Gloucester by building more affordable homes and social rented housing in rural communities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
