Press Attendance At Holocaust Memorial Debate

EDM number 835 in 2007-08, proposed by Lembit Opik on 31/01/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Media and Parliament.

That this House notes that on 31st January 2008 the Press Gallery was virtually full for the debate on Standards and Privileges relating to the expenses of the hon. Member for Old Bexley and Sidcup, but it emptied almost completely immediately afterwards on the commencement of the debate on Holocaust Memorial Day, commemorating the deaths of over 10 million individuals in the most horrific of circumstances; believes this is a shocking indictment of the priorities of the British press; and calls on the Parliamentary Press Corps to respect this reflective, moving and thoughtful debate with sensitive and significant coverage this year and by attending such debates in future.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
