Leicestershire Christmas Drink-Drive Campaign

EDM number 167 in 2008-09, proposed by Keith Vaz on 08/12/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Alcoholism, Health education and preventive medicine and Roads.

That this House welcomes the Christmas drink-and-drug-drive campaign launched by the police in Leicestershire; appreciates the use of initiatives such as extensive media messages and increased field impairment tests; notes that similar initiatives as part of the Christmas THINK campaign are being undertaken by police forces across the UK throughout the Christmas holidays; further notes that 460 people across the country died due to consequences of drunk driving in the last year; recognises that the Christmas period sees a rise in drink-drive incidents and that 27 accidents occurred over Christmas holidays in Leicestershire in 2007; and believes widespread awareness and stringent monitoring is required to prevent accidents during the festive season.
