National Lottery Funding And The London 2012 Olympic And Paralympic Games

EDM number 349 in 2008-09, proposed by Don Foster on 17/12/2008.
Categorised under the topics of National Lottery and Sports.

That this House notes that the second tranche of National Lottery money diverted to the London 2012 Olympics will result in £675 million taken from the National Lottery Good Causes between now and 2012; recognises the enormous contribution that National Lottery money makes to sport, the arts, heritage, the community and the voluntary sector; further notes that the Government's plan to repay the money taken from the National Lottery through the sale of the land after the Olympics may undermine the legacy from the Games because it does not compensate for a reduction in funding for community projects in the run-up to the Games; and calls on the Government to consider introducing a gross profits tax regime for the National Lottery which will increase prize money, the amount of money for good causes and revenue for the Exchequer.
