Harry Gregg

EDM number 124 in 2012-13, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 23/05/2012.

That this House notes the recent testimonial for Harry Gregg, the former Manchester United and Northern Ireland goalkeeper; extends heartiest congratulations to Castlerock resident Mr Gregg who, in the Munich air disaster of 1958, helped save the lives of a number of his colleagues and shortly after the disaster played for Northern Ireland in the World Cup in Swedenandwas voted best goalkeeper in that competition; acknowledges that a number of footballing greats from George Best to Sir Alex Ferguson have described this man as `one of the greats'; further acknowledges the humility of the man in donating the vast bulk of the proceeds of the testimonial which featured Manchester United v an Irish League select team to local charities; and wishes him well for the future as he has exemplified what a real role model should be for young footballers today.
