Links Between Libya And Sri Lanka

EDM number 1711 in 2010-12, proposed by Robert Halfon on 04/04/2011.
Categorised under the topics of Africa and Asia.

That this House notes the strong diplomatic relationship between Libya and Sri Lanka in recent years; further notes that Libya was one of the countries which supported Sri Lanka when the UN Human Rights Council sought a resolution against Sri Lanka for alleged war crimes in the wake of the country's 26-year civil war; acknowledges that Sri Lanka has strongly disagreed with the NATO-led military initiative against Libya; further acknowledges that Sri Lanka believes `air strikes will simply increase the suffering of the people of Libya'; believes that Sri Lanka should have shown a similar level of concern for its own civilians, when it failed to protect citizens during the final months of the conflict on the island; and calls on the government of Sri Lanka to ensure the security and well-being of all its citizens, now and in the future.
