School Exclusion Appeals Panels

EDM number 611 in 2010-12, proposed by Diane Abbott on 26/07/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families and Schools.

That this House supports the right of appeal for children excluded from school and recognises that appeals panels provide an important means to overturn unjust exclusions; recognises that exclusion has an extremely negative effect on a pupil's education and life chances and that scrapping the appeals process will have a disproportionately negative impact on Black Caribbean boys who are three times more likely than their white counterparts to be excluded; and calls on the Government to confirm that appeals panels will not be scrapped as part of its ongoing education reforms.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
