That this House welcomes the proposals by Mayor Bloomberg of New York City to ban supersize fizzy drinks; notes that obesity is a key factor in causing type 2 diabetes which affects 3.4 million peoplein the UK; further notes that 24 per cent of UK men and 22 per cent of UK women are obese; is alarmed that the cost of diabetes to the NHS is now 10 billion per year; and callson the Government to limit portion sizes of unhealthy foods to tackle the twin diabetes and obesity epidemics.
