Licensing Of Waste Collection

EDM number 244 in 2012-13, proposed by Alan Meale on 20/06/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Waste management.

That this House is aware that the collection, recycling and disposal of the nation's waste throughout the UK is both highly important and essential if the UK is to maintain good public health and clean environments within its communities; understands that failure to deliver these key endeavours poses many problems, risks and threats to humankind, wildlife and local environments; believes, therefore, that high standards of regulation must be introduced, monitored and maintained, to ensure waste is dealt with in a well-organised, safe and clean manner; and therefore calls on the Government to immediately take action against unscrupulous individuals who operate unlicensed and without due regard to the rules and guidelines laid down for dealing with such materials, in particular by the immediate introduction of a law making it compulsory for all waste operators to be fully licensed and for such a licence to be openly displayed on all collection vehicles, with high levels of penalties for anyone discovered carrying out such tasks without due authorisation.
