Wedding Cars Regulation

EDM number 481 in 2012-13, proposed by David Morris on 05/09/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Financial services, Regulation and Roads.

That this House notes the Law Commission is currently consulting on removing the exemption from wedding cars that means they do not have to get the same licences as private hire operators; further notes that the annual cost of this change has been estimated at around 700 for the operator licence and around 300 per driver; believes that there is no reason to remove this exemption; further believes that it will force small and occasional wedding hire companies like J Yates and Son of Carnforth to stop servicing weddings; and calls on the Law Commission to reject this plan as it will do serious harm to a small but important British industry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
