Restructuring Of The BBC In Scotland

EDM number 528 in 2012-13, proposed by John Thurso on 13/09/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Broadcasting.

That this House notes with concern the proposed reductions in staffing at BBC Scotland, representing 35 senior posts across the country; further notes with particular concern the loss of 50 per cent of senior personnel in Inverness, undermining the BBC's ability to give fair coverage of the varied and geographically vast Highlands news agenda; regrets the damage which will be done to the quality of Scottish broadcasting by these lay-offs, particularly in news and current affairs at a time when Scotland's politics are of fundamental importance to the future of the UK; and calls on BBC Scotland to reconsider these false economies and to continue to provide a high quality of service for people across Scotland and the UK.
