Flood Envoy Roles

EDM number 381 in 2016-17, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 21/07/2016.
Categorised under the topic of Flooding.

That this House notes that the Government appointed two flood envoys following the 2015 Christmas period flooding, with one envoy tasked with overseeing the flood response in Yorkshire, and the other envoy tasked with doing likewise in Cumbria and Northumberland, to ensure that the areas worst affected by the floods would get due attention and necessary support from central government; expresses great concern that both roles have now been scrapped; believes that this does not send the right message about the attention and focus that the Government is giving to the families, homes, farms and businesses that were badly affected by the floods and that many of them are still recovering or have not fully recovered from the impact of the floods; further believes that the Government must send a clear message that it is continuing to focus on ensuring recovery from the floods and mitigating against future flooding; and urges the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to reverse the scrapping of both flood envoy positions.
