PAT Testing Domestic Electrical Appliances

EDM number 1119 in 2017-19, proposed by Grahame Morris on 26/03/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Private rented housing and Social rented housing.

That this House notes that at present there is no statutory requirement for landlords to PAT test electrical appliances in their rental properties; believes the appalling Grenfell Tower tragedy, which cost the lives of 71 people and left hundreds more homeless, started as a result of a faulty electrical appliance; and calls on the Government to encourage insurers to take PAT testing into account when evaluating tenanted premises to make PAT testing in rental properties a requirement and to help to prevent any similar incidents.
