Computers And The Millennium

EDM number 1312 in 1997-98, proposed by Bob Russell on 12/05/1998.

That this House is extremely concerned by the Millennium Bomb and the potentially devastating consequences it could have on the UK and global economies; is concerned that the cost of a comprehensive solution for the United Kingdom is estimated at over ú50 billion, of which only about ú8 billion has so far been spent; shares the worries of many leading businessmen that the public sector is even further behind than the private sector; wonders where the resources for the cost to the public sector will come from such as the estimated ú1 billion for the National Health Service; welcomes the Prime Minister's recent intervention and acknowledgment that this problem is an emergency; urges Action 2000 and Taskforce 2000 to work closely together in tackling this problem; and hopes that the Government immediately appoint a Millennium Bomb Tsar to urgently begin the task of co-ordinated, prioritised action across the economy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
