Royal Regiment Of Fusiliers

EDM number 1504 in 1997-98, proposed by Alan Beith on 01/07/1998.

That this House commends the prompt and efficient assistance provided by soldiers of W Company, 6th (Northumberland) Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, during floods in Spittal, Berwick upon Tweed; notes that the Fusiliers were at the scene less than thirty minutes after help was first requested by the borough council and rendered invaluable assistance to the local community; and further calls on Ministers to take full account in their defence review conclusions of the way in which the Territorial Army provides a civil emergency capability alongside its combat skills, especially in the more remote communities from which it recruits.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
