EDM number 1561 in 1997-98, proposed by Robin Corbett on 15/07/1998.
That this House recalls that building of the Castle Bromwich aeroplane factory, Birmingham, began on 15 July 1938; salutes those thousands of women and men who produced almost 12,000 Spitfires there between 1938 and 1946; congratulates Alex Henshaw who, as chief pilot, tested almost one in 10 of the Spitfires; and honours the contribution of those who flew this fighter aircraft in defence of freedom in the Second World War.
