Midwives In The Health Service
EDM number 1728 in 1997-98, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 03/11/1998.
That this House acknowledges the tremendous contribution that midwives have made to the National Health Service since its creation 50 years ago; recognises the outstanding level of care provided by them to mothers and babies; understands that the Government's plans for a new and modern National Health Service cannot be achieved without more effective recruitment and retention initiatives; expresses concern that the National Health Service has not implemented the 1995 agreement on a minimum F grade or equivalent for midwives providing women-centred care; and urges the Government to bear these facts in mind at the outcome of the Independent Pay Review Body's deliberations.
