Energy Efficiency And Hec Action

EDM number 349 in 1997-98, proposed by Paul Burstow on 27/10/1997.

That this House congratulates the 60 local authorities which have won awards to improve domestic energy efficiency in their area through the Energy Saving Trust's 1997 Energy Efficiency HEC Action Awards; notes that through the partnership between Government, local government, the private sector andhouseholders that ú2.5 million in awards will attract an additional ú18 million investment from the private sector; notes that the schemes funded over the first two years of HEC Action will reduce consumers energy bills by up to ú15 million, some of which will be taken in improved comfort, and will save over two million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being emitted; notes that the awards deliver social and economic benefits including jobs, affordable warmth and health improvements; believes that energy efficiency can play a vital role in helping combat the threat exposed by global warming; and urges Government to highlight its importance at the forthcoming Kyoto Conference.
