Byc Youth And Parliament Day
EDM number 547 in 1997-98, proposed by Stephen Twigg on 02/12/1997.
That this House welcomes the British Youth Council's Youth and Parliament Day held on Tuesday 9th December 1997 which enables 1000 young people to come to Westminster to meet their MPs and raise issues of concern to them with Ministers and other Parliamentarians; notes that while young people in other EU partner countries such as France and Germany automatically receive some form of citizenship education as part of their compulsory schooling, this is not the case for young people in the UK; recognises the excellent work done by the British Youth Council to increase the involvement of young people in decision-making which affects their lives on a local, national and European level; and calls upon the Government to ensure that young people have the right to some form of citizenship education.
This motion has been signed by a total of 85 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
