Junk Faxes

EDM number 969 in 1997-98, proposed by Dan Norris on 11/03/1998.

That this House notes the irritation and inconvenience caused by unsolicited faxes to domestic addresses, often late at night; further notes that children may respond to junk faxes involving the use of high-cost premium rate telephone numbers; recognises that the material delivered in this way is sometimes offensive; welcomes the recent decision of the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services indicating a commitment to curb inappropriate junk faxes; and ask the Government to take appropriate measures to ensure public protection against unsolicited junk faxes when regulations applying to the communications industry are next considered.

This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs.
