Israeli-Palestinian Co-Operation

That this House welcomes the co-operation between Israeli and Palestinian peace and human rights organisations to rebuild, on the day of the inauguration of Ehud Barak's new Israeli Government, the demolished home of the Shawamreh family in the West Bank; recognises it as a demonstration of the trust that has to be built between the two communities if the peace process is to succeed; congratulates the organisations which took part, including the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, the Palestinian Centre for Peace and Democracy, Gush Shalom, the Alternative Information Centre, the Palestinian Land Defence Committee, Bat Shalom, the Palestinian People's Party, the Rapprochement Dialogue Centre, Rabbis for Human Rights, Bridge to Peace, Women in Black, Netivot Shalom/Oz v'Shalom, Yesh Gvul, Palestinians and Israelis for Non-Violence, and Adam (the Student Group for Human Rights at the Hebrew University); and calls on the British Government to play an active role in progressing peace negotiations in the region at this crucial time.
