Soil Protection Strategy

EDM number 1096 in 1999-00, proposed by David Lepper on 30/10/2000.

That this House notes that public concern for soil protection is high, especially in the wake of extreme events such as recent flooding in the South East; believes that erosion caused by inappropriate land use blocks highways, damages property and dwellings, destroys fisheries and wildlife habitats, fills in lakes and degrades the productive potential of the land; urges the Government to give an active commitment to the protection and sustainable use of the nation's vital and finite soil resources; and calls for a soil protection strategy as a framework for the current work on sustainability by Government and regional planning agencies.

This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
