Inequalities In Education Funding
EDM number 80 in 1999-00, proposed by David Heath on 23/11/1999.
That this House welcomes the New Deal, Fair Deal campaign on the part of the 40 worst-funded education authorities; notes that the gross inequalities in current Government spending allocations for primary and secondary pupils are prejudicial to the quality of education provision, affecting class sizes, classroom and special needs support and many areas of non-statutory provision; believes that all children are entitled to good-quality educational provision; and accordingly calls for the introduction without delay of a new, fairer, funding system which is transparent, easy to operate and recognises the needs of schools throughout the country.
