Organ Donor Cards

EDM number 924 in 1999-00, proposed by Howard Stoate on 04/07/2000.

That this House notes with regret that less than three in 10 people in this country carry organ donor cards, whilst there has been a three per cent. rise between 1998 and 1999 in the number of people awaiting a transplant; believes that the failure of many banks, libraries, shops, GP surgeries and other public facilities to stock organ donation cards, combined with widespread public apathy, is partly responsible for this; and urges the Government, in conjunction with the medical profession, to initiate a programme to publicise the shortage of organs available for transplant and encourage the wider distribution of organ donor cards and a wider take-up of donor cards by the public to coincide with National Transplant Week starting on 16th July.

This motion has been signed by a total of 72 MPs.
